French and Fresians

We have had one more duck fatality, so I think we will have to keep them penned in for a bit, at least until the fox thinks there is no free lunch to be had around here. Neil wants to get a gun and shoot it, but after recent events in the UK I think gun ownership is a very bad idea!

We had our first french lesson with a new teacher last night - and came away with a very large tv for 20 euros! Neil, who normally could easily live without a tv, seems to have taken a sudden interest in viewing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out it has something to do with the World cup football.
The lesson was followed by some very lovely rose wine, which is a very civilised way to go about learning. Our new teacher taught French in schools in the UK for some time, and she is really lovely.

Work on our house has come to a grinding halt while earning money becomes a priority for Neil. It is really difficult to get the balance right between progress here and the need to suppliment my income and Neil finds it frustrating as hell to be working elsewhere when there is so much he wants to do here.

My friend the fresian owner sent me these photos this morning so I thought I would share them with you

  1. Sorry about your duck, shooting it is the answer!! What wonderful pictures. Wish I could find a decent French teacher around here. My problem is I need private lessons, group is not enough to knock it into my thick skull and I can't afford private!! Diane

  2. How far are you from Rochechouart Diane - she is not far from there and charged Neil and I ten euros each for well over an hour. Just a thought x

  3. Probably a good thirty minutes drive, may be a bit more, so it is quite a long way to go for a lesson, but that sounds ideal. Cost of fuel ontop of the fee...... Thanks for the thought. Diane

  4. We're continually frustrated by the pace of work here too, Roz, including cash flow requirements. Do we push on with finishing the half barn so we can move into it, or do we continue to plough the money into the other barns, and the land. For the moment it is the barns, land and animals. I do what I can as my work is patchy, but I should be working on my Internet shop and the products I want to put on it, but I don't have the time. Meanwhile, Lester is tied to his PC for long chunks of the day and really has only the weekends. Ah well, I guess the lesson is one of patience for us all! Hope your ducks stay safe and that you have a good weekend. Lovely photos by the way.

  5. We're very lucky in that three terms of catalan lessons are available free to anyone. But 10 euros isn't bad, especially with wine included!

I sympathise with the trials and tribulations of cashflow ... good luck.
